Alright, well it took me longer than I imagined to deploy this new site. I set up my first website almost three years ago, and I have no idea what I was doing when I did that. I still have no idea what I am doing. But I got it working! Here is what I ended up doing:
- I tried to just put my new website on my server. Old website still displayed online.
- I tried poking around in my files to see what I did to make that happen. Didn’t find anything
- reinstalled Debian on my server
- reinstalled NGINX and such
- started over from scratch
And then the CSS on chose not to display after I deployed my site, even though it would render locally. An hour of searching later, got that fixed, and here we are!
Why do this instead of using a service like squarespace that does all the work for me? Because I am bad at this and it gives me a chance to learn. Also, I like simple static websites.
